Centre Awards & Trophies

Celebrating achievement, improvement and contribution

Each season, Cranbourne Little Athletics recognises the achievements of our athletes, families and volunteers through a range of Centre awards and perpetual trophies.

Our awards are designed to celebrate much more than just winning. They recognise participation, consistency, improvement, sportsmanship, commitment, volunteering and contribution to the Cranbourne Little Athletics community.

How Athlete Points Are Calculated

Throughout the Track & Field season, athletes automatically earn performance points through the Centre’s results system.

Points are calculated for every eligible event completed during Cranbourne Centre competition, with performances measured against predetermined scoring tables.

This means every:

  • second run,
  • centimetre jumped, and
  • centimetre thrown

all contributes towards an athlete’s season score.

Points can be earned during regular Centre competition and eligible special-program events.

Region and State competition performances do not contribute towards Centre award point totals.

End of Season Participation Awards

All registered athletes are eligible to receive a Participation Award provided they meet the following minimum requirements:

  • The athlete has participated in at least 60% of the events available to them from their date of registration; and
  • Their family has achieved the required minimum of 30 Parent Duty points for the season.

We understand that circumstances such as illness, injury or family custody arrangements can affect an athlete’s ability to participate.

Families are encouraged to advise the Centre where circumstances outside the athlete’s control have significantly impacted attendance. The Committee may consider these circumstances when determining award eligibility.

Centre Champion Awards

The Centre Champion Awards recognise the highest-performing overall boy and girl athlete across all age groups during the Track & Field season.

To be eligible, athletes must:

  • Complete at least 75% of the total events available to them; and
  • Have the required 30 Parent Duty points completed by their family.

The Centre Champion system rewards athletes who perform consistently across a broad range of events throughout the entire season.

Rather than rewarding excellence in only one discipline, the award recognises the athlete who demonstrates outstanding all-round performance, consistency and participation.

It is similar in concept to a Decathlon or Heptathlon — except the competition takes place across an entire Cranbourne season.

Age Group Champion & Runner-Up

An Age Group Champion and Runner-Up are recognised within each eligible age group.

These awards are determined using an athlete’s average performance across each event during the season.

Average performances are converted into points based on the percentage of the current Cranbourne Centre Record achieved.

For example, an athlete whose season average equals the current Centre Record for an event would receive 100% of the available points for that event.

If a Centre Record is broken during the season, the scoring percentages are automatically recalculated to reflect the new record.

To be eligible, athletes must:

  • Complete at least 75% of the total events available to them; and
  • Have the required 30 Parent Duty points completed by their family.

This system rewards athletes who demonstrate strong and consistent performances across the season, rather than being determined by one individual competition day.

Coaches Perpetual Trophy

The Coaches Perpetual Trophy is awarded each season to one boy and one girl athlete.

Recipients are selected by the Head Coach based on their attitude and contribution throughout both training and Centre competition.

Consideration is given to qualities such as:

  • Sportsmanship
  • Behaviour
  • Attitude towards training
  • Respect for coaches and other athletes
  • Effort and commitment
  • Willingness to learn and improve
  • Positive contribution to the training environment

This award recognises athletes who represent the values we want to see throughout Cranbourne Little Athletics.

President’s Award

The President’s Award recognises a member of the Cranbourne Little Athletics community who has made an outstanding contribution to the Centre.

The recipient is selected by the CLAC President and will generally be someone who has provided significant, long-term or often unrecognised support behind the scenes.

It recognises the people whose commitment, generosity and volunteer contribution help make the Centre possible.

Lyn Abaloz Memorial Shield

The Lyn Abaloz Memorial Shield was introduced in the 1988/89 season as a tribute to Lyn Abaloz and her significant involvement in the development of Little Athletics in Cranbourne.

Each season, the Shield is awarded to one boy and one girl athlete.

Recipients are considered across a range of areas, including:

  • General behaviour
  • Attendance at training
  • Attendance at Centre competition
  • Improvement throughout the season
  • Sportsmanship
  • Personal Best performances

To be eligible, athletes must:

  • Complete at least 60% of the total events available to them; and
  • Have the required 30 Parent Duty points completed by their family.

The award recognises athletes who demonstrate commitment, improvement and the positive values associated with Little Athletics.

Family Volunteer Award

Little Athletics simply does not happen without families volunteering their time.

The Family Volunteer Award recognises a family that has shown exceptional support, involvement and commitment to Cranbourne Little Athletics throughout the season.

The award celebrates a family whose contribution has helped make our competition program and Centre community stronger.

Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year award recognises a parent or volunteer who has gone above and beyond in supporting Cranbourne Little Athletics.

The recipient is selected by the Committee and recognises someone who has generously contributed their time, skills and effort for the benefit of our athletes and the wider Centre.

Whether their contribution has been highly visible or quietly completed behind the scenes, this award celebrates the people who make CLAC possible.

Most Improved Athletes

The Most Improved Athlete Awards recognise athletes who have demonstrated outstanding personal improvement throughout the season.

One boy and one girl are recognised across each of the following categories:

  • Junior - U6–U8
  • Intermediate - U9–U12
  • Senior - U13–U16
  • Multi-Class Team

Athletes participating within the Centre’s Multi-Class program.

These awards are determined by the number of Personal Best performances achieved throughout the season.

To be eligible, athletes must:

  • Complete at least 60% of the total events available to them; and
  • Have the required 30 Parent Duty points completed by their family.

At Cranbourne, we believe one of the greatest measures of success is becoming better than you were before — and these awards celebrate exactly that.

Season Performance Award

Introduced for the 2025/26 season, the Season Performance Award recognises athletes who demonstrate outstanding participation, performance and consistency across the entire Track & Field season.

One boy and one girl will be recognised in each of the following divisions:

  • Emergent – U6
  • Junior
  • Intermediate
  • Senior

The award is determined by the total cumulative points earned throughout the season using Cranbourne’s standard weekly points system.

Unlike the Centre Champion Award, points are not averaged. Every eligible performance contributes towards the athlete’s season total, rewarding athletes who consistently attend, compete and perform across the season.

To be eligible, athletes must:

  • Complete at least 75% of the total events available to them
  • Have the required 30 Parent Duty points completed by their family

In the event of a tie, the award will be determined by the highest number of first-place finishes, followed by second-place finishes and subsequent placings where required.

The Season Performance Award complements the Centre Champion Award and provides additional recognition for athletes who demonstrate commitment, consistency and strong performance throughout the entire season.

More Than Just Medals and Trophies

Our end-of-season awards are an opportunity to celebrate everything that makes Cranbourne Little Athletics special.

Performance. Improvement. Participation. Sportsmanship. Volunteering. Community.

Every athlete, parent, coach and volunteer plays a part in our Centre — and we’re proud to recognise those contributions each season. 💙💛
