Congratulations and Good Luck to all the athletes who will represent Cranbourne at this weekend’s State Championships. This year we have a massive team who have progressed through to state – with a total of 99 athletes over 230 events.

Many brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends among this group, but whilst we are at Knox this weekend, wearing the White, Blue and Gold, We Are One Centre, We Are One Family – let’s all support one another this week and keep that Cranbourne Spirit High!!

Yes, it is going to be hot! There may be changes throughout the day! Please note that this is a FULL LAVic Event, we find out things the same time that you find out.
LAVic do have plenty of Marquees up at field event sites, as well as the finish line with misting fans to assist cooling down the athletes.

Where is it?

This year’s State Championships will take place at Knox Athletics Track Bunjil Way, Knoxfield VIC 3180

Please note that parking may be a little chaotic, please try and arrive early!

Where to Check In?

Once you arrive at the Knox Track, we have our marquees set up at the 200m start – please look around for the Cranbourne Marquees!
Cranbourne is known for making lots of noise and cheering on each athlete, so let’s keep that going!

Please make sure you bring a deck chair, blanket etc to sit on.

Families will be required to check in with Lisa at least one hour before your first event, the call rooms close 20 minutes before event time. If you do not check in with Lisa at the Cranbourne team area we will presume your athlete is not competing and will be scratched from their events.

Duty Roster

When registering, it is a requirement to agree to fulfill Parent Duty. With numerous athletes participating, the allocation of duties is extensive, and all families must fulfill their assigned responsibilities. We have made efforts to distribute duties evenly. Please ensure that you do not let down the center and, more importantly, our athletes.

Failure to attend to your duty will result in your child being scratched for all subsequent events on the weekend. Moreover, you risk jeopardizing your standing for future Region/State events, upcoming Cranbourne functions, and Cranbourne season awards.

Parents on duty are obligated to wear closed-toe footwear for safety purposes. It is important to note that while on duty inside the track, the use of mobile phones, taking photos, or cheering for athletes is strictly prohibited, as this may jeopardize the athletes and result in disqualification from the event.

All duties must be carried out by individuals who are 18 years or older.

Keep in mind that 99% of individuals you encounter at the event will be volunteers, generously contributing their time to ensure the smooth operation of the event.

All athletes must be wearing the complete Cranbourne uniform. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in your child being ineligible to participate—this adheres to both LAVIC rules and the conditions of entry.

Our Uniform Consists of:

  • Royal Blue Shorts with NO Pockets, Patterns, or Non-approved logos (e.g., Nike, Adidas, etc…)
  • Cranbourne Competition Top
  • Coles patch SEWN on, above the LAVic logo on the athlete’s shirt.

Qualifying for the 2023/24 State Championships

The 2023/24 State Track and Field Championships will be held at none other than Casey Fields, on Saturday 9th, and Sunday 10th March 2024.

The first-placed athlete per Region per event will automatically qualify for the State Track & Field Championships. The rest of the field will be made up of the next best performances from across all Regions to complete the field of 24 athletes (16 athletes only in 800m events).

There are eligibility standards for High Jump and Walk events, that must be achieved to qualify, regardless of placing first at Region.

Athletes must have competed in and finished in the overall top 10 placing in the relevant event at the Region Track and Field Carnival, except for High Jump and Race Walks.

Walks and High Jump Progression Rules

Multi-class athletes will be progressed based on their converted performance at the Region Track & Field Carnival, up to the maximum field size for each event. If there are insufficient entries, or if places and performances are equal, only clear progressions will be advanced, i.e., a field may be less than the allowed maximum field size

For example
All events other than 800m, Walk and High Jump.
24 Athletes will go through to state
7 of these will be the automatic qualifier, the winner from each region
The remaining 17 athletes will be the next best times from all the region carnivals

800m
16 Athletes will go through to state
7 of these will be the automatic qualifier, the winner from each region
The remaining 9 athletes will be the next best times from all the region carnivals

Medal Presentations

Medals will be awarded to athletes who secure a position in the TOP 3 overall. Regional carnivals do not distribute place ribbons. In track events featuring more than one timed final, the medals will be given to the three athletes with the fastest overall times, rather than the winners of each timed final.

Event Clashes

Referees and our center team manager will manage conflicts arising between track and field events, and there is no requirement for parental intervention in these matters. Track events will be prioritized over field events, and we won’t delay events for athletes at the Presentation area. Medals will remain available, ensuring athletes can collect them after their respective events.

Scratchings

If you need to scratch your athlete for any reason, please call our team manager Lisa to let her know – 0412 977 939

GO CRANBOURNE!!!

Wednesday, 22 November 2023 / Published in Uncategorised

Congratulations and Good Luck to all our athletes who have qualified for this year’s State Championships.

The State Championships will take place this Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

Please ensure you arrive at least one hour before your first event!

In case you are running a little late you must contact Lisa directly, on 0472 624 384 — avoid social media messages or email, as these channels won’t be monitored throughout the day.
Refer to the timetable below for event details; note that the call room closes 30 minutes before each event. Teams not present in the call room by then risk disqualification for the entire team.

What to do once you arrive at Lakeside?

Parking

For the most convenient parking, we recommend Albert Road or Albert Road Drive. Ample parking is available in the vicinity, with early arrival ensuring better parking options. Please allow for additional time for parking.

Where to go?

Upon reaching Lakeside Stadium, locate us in our usual spot on the back straight near the 1500m start. Access through gate 1 is recommended for ease of entry. Cranbourne is renowned for its spirited support, so let’s maintain the tradition of making noise and cheering for each athlete.

Athlete Check In

Every athlete is required to sign in with our Team Managers upon arrival and sign out before leaving, even during breaks between events. This adherence to a new child-safe guideline not only ensures safety but also aids our team managers in tracking athlete presence. Athletes who haven’t checked in at the designated Cranbourne area before their event may be scratched and replaced.

Food Options

We strongly advise families to bring their lunch, beverages, and snacks, as the food choices at Lakeside Stadium are quite limited.

What to do before and after your event?

Warming Up

Our coaches will be around to take teams for a quick warm-up before heading to the call room, this will take place roughly 50 minutes before the event

Going to the call room

Athletes must be escorted to the call room by a Team Manager or a designated individual as per the team managers’ instructions. The entire team will proceed to the call room collectively, typically 30-40 minutes before the event starts.

After your athlete has ran

After completing their race, athletes will have to exit the arena through the nearest gate. For instance, the second runner in a 4×100 relay should use the gate at the change-over box.
Running on the infield will result in an automatic disqualification for the team.
The top three finishers will be called to the presentation area for the medal ceremony roughly 20-30minutes after the event.

In between events

During breaks, athletes can either stay around the track to support other Cranbourne Teams or leave the arena. However, the same rule applies: return at least an hour before your next event. Time tends to pass swiftly during these events.

Duty Roster

As per entry conditions, all families may be required to perform a duty.

CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL PARENT DUTIES

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR NAME ISNT IS ON THE ABOVE SHEET, YOU MAY STILL BE ASKED TO PERFORM A DUTY.

Failure to attend to your duty assignment will result in your child being scratched and replaced for all subsequent relay events on that day. Moreover, you risk jeopardizing your standing for future Region/State events, upcoming Cranbourne functions, and Cranbourne season awards.

Uniform

All athletes must be wearing the complete Cranbourne uniform. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in your child being ineligible to participate—this adheres to both LAVIC rules and the conditions of entry.

Our Uniform Consists of:

  • Royal Blue Shorts with NO Pockets, Patterns, or Non-approved logos (e.g., Nike, Adidas, etc…)
  • Cranbourne Competition Top
  • Coles patch SEWN on, above the LAVic logo on the athlete’s shirt.
  • 2023/24 Commonwealth Bank name patch.

Just a quick Chronicle Update this month with a few reminders.

There will be a few extra emails going out over the next few weeks with Parent Point Updates, Region and State Updates, Meteorite Gift and Championship/Personal Best Day.

Pakenham vs Cranbourne Shield

Last Saturday was, once again, a great day out at Pakenham for the Annual Cranbourne vs Pakenham Cup. This event started in the early ’90s when two small country centre committees thought it would be a great idea for the athletes to make friends and have some friendly rivalries.

We won the cup, again, with all our athletes putting in some of their best performances.

This is the last year we will meet at this track for Pakenham before they move to a brand-new synthetic track down the road.

2023/24 Committee Nominations

Have you been thinking of joining the Cranbourne Little Athletics Centre Committee?
As of the End of the Track & Field Season, all committee positions are declared open.

If you would like a Role Description of any of the positions, please email the centre, or see the link below for a brief description. Please fill out your nomination form and email it to the Secretary before the AGM.

Hosting 2022/23 GCR Track and Field Carnival
(Extra Assistance Required)

This year we ar HOSTING the 2022/23 GCR Track and Field Carnival at Casey Fields. This of course means we will be requiring extra duties to help run the Canteen and BBQ for the weekend. These duties will be on top of the normal GCR allocated, on field duties.

In the next few weeks we will release a sign up sheet for those to help over the Region weekend, these duties will grant BONUS PARENT POINTS for all who help.

Days like this are a major fundraiser for our centre which helps keeps our fee’s down, and all profit goes back into the centre to help the athletes. The more help we get around the Canteen and BBQ the better it is for our centre, and the better it is for your family.

Entries for GCR Coles Track & Field Carnival – U9+ (Feb 18th-19th)

The entries for Region Track and Field for the U9+ athletes are closing soon!

All athletes in these age groups would have received an email from LAVic with further details on how and where to register.
Please remember this is a SATURDAY & SUNDAY event, and this year we are hosting it at Casey Fields.

If you have any questions please see one of the committee members, send us an email or a message via messenger and we will be able to assist.

Please remember this is the qualifying for the State Track and Field Championships.

Also please note, when registering you must agree that you understand as a condition of entering my child in the Region Carnival and State Championships (if qualifies), it is a requirement that I will be available to perform a rostered duty representing my Centre as required – this applies to ALL athletes, whether you are doing 1 or 5 events. If parents are scheduled for duties and do not show up, your athlete will be scratched from all future events, including the state championship, if they qualify.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE PAGE BEFORE REGISTERING – YOU WILL NEED YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD TO REGISTER, PLEASE REFER TO THE LAVIC EMAIL FOR THOSE DETAILS. THE FULL EVENT TIMETABLE WILL NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE UNTIL AFTER THE ENTRIES HAVE CLOSED.

Uniform Requirements

Would you turn up to your weekly footy or netball game and be allowed to play in Tracksuit pants or wear a different color shirt?
Would you turn up to your soccer or basketball game and be allowed to play in your hoody or wear logos of another team?
Would you perform a dance competition wearing your warm-up top?

Little Athletics is no different – The FULL Centre uniform must be worn when competing at all Centre Programs. White Cranbourne competition shirt, PLAIN royal blue shorts, Your Commonwealth Bank Name Patch pinned on, and the sewn-on Coles Patch all form part of your uniform.
The uniform can be purchased from our uniform shop on a Saturday morning or via our online store

There are only 3 reasons not to be in the correct uniform:
1. You are a trial athlete.
2. We have run out of your size (we now have a full size run in all items)
3. We have a special dress-up-themed week (Pinkletics, Coles Community Day etc..).

If you forget your name tag, you can purchase a new one for $5 – after this week we will no longer have Temp Tags.
If you are not in the correct uniform, your results will not be recorded and any photos will not be uploaded.

8am Program Starts

Please remember we start from 8am. The committee has been coming up with ideas on how we can get through the program quicker each and every week. One thing that does extend the program out, is athletes turning up late.

If you are late and your age group is already at an event please make sure you are aware of the following:

– 1st Event is a Track Event
If the age group has already completed the event, they will not be permitted to run with another age group or gender. If they are in marshaling/waiting at the start line, the athlete will be able to join in.

– 1st Event is Long/Triple Jump or a Throwing Event.
Athletes will join into the round they are up. If every athlete has already completed two attempts, the late athlete will only get one attempt. No Practice throws/jumps and No Time to mark run ups etc.

– 1st Event is High Jump
The athlete will be able to join in at the current height when they arrive.

When it comes time for another event if parent helpers notice an athlete is missing please notify one of the committee members with a radio and we will organize to have the athlete called to the event. If they are called to the event and are still late the same rules as above will apply.

Lost Property

Our Lost Property collection is growing at a rapid rate.
Please remember to label all clothing and drink bottles so we can try and return them to athletes.

Once items have been in Lost Property for 4-6 weeks the items will be donated to a local charity

Social Media and Communication

Make sure you have liked us on Facebook and followed our Instagram for further updates, pictures, etc… Last Season we won the LAVic Marketing Award for our Social Media presence so be sure to jump on and like our page.

Where to go?

Once you arrive at Lakeside Stadium, we will be set up in our usual spot on the back straight near the 1500m start. Cranbourne is known for making lots of noise and cheering on each athlete, so let’s keep that going!

Please check in with Paul Freestone at least 45mins before your first event, the call rooms close 20mins before event time.
